Why is chronic stress more of a problem for our
bodies than acute stress?
O in chronic stress, we have positive feedback from
the SAM system continuing to activate itself over
and over and over again, leading to continually
increasing levels of E/NE circulating in the blood,
which have negative effects on our bodies.
O it's not - they are equally problematic.
O in chronic stress, negative feedback from the
stressor going away does not occur and thus
doesn't quiet down the HPA axis. So, the HPA
axis continues to cause elevated release of stress
hormones, and stress hormones have negative
effects on our bodies.
O in chronic stress, negative feedback from the
stressor going away does not quiet down the
SAM system. So, elevated levels of E/NE circulate
in the blood, which have negative effects on our
bodies.
